Dog Breeds
The American Kennel Club (AKC) recognizes over 150 breeds of dogs in eight different general groups. Most dog breeds are simply cross breeds of two or more other types of dogs, but to be recognized by the AKC they have to have an established history of pure breeding.

These breeds have stood the test of time and are still highly popular in many countries. Many breeds such as those above have specific characteristics which appeal to owners.
For example the German Shepherd Dog is fiercely loyal and a fantastic guard dog. The Siberian Husky loves to pull a sled and is a great working dog.
The Australia Shepherd is perfect as a cattle dog and many farmers choose this breed. Chihuahuas are great if your living quarters are small and the Poodle is a highly intelligent breed.
