If you have a dog in your family, I know you want your friend to not only live a long life, but you want her to live that life in a happy, healthy, and pain free way! Unfortunately, dogs, just like people, will suffer from many different maladies which keep them from either enjoying a happy life or enjoying a pain free life. This section of the Dog Nation website will attempt to help you with some of the common health problems you may encounter.
The health of your dog depends largely upon what you feed her, which is covered to a great extent in the Dog Nutrition section of this site. Other factors which can influence your dogs health include:
- Environment: Do you keep your dog outside all the time, or is she an inside dog? Regardless of where she stays, is her home kept clean and free of harmful chemicals or hazards?
- Age: Just as we humans become more susceptible to illness as we age, so do dogs. Understanding how old your dog is will help you prepare for what might be coming. We actually developed 3 different dog age calculators, and describe the reasons for each calculator. Just click on the Dog Age Calculators link in our menu.
- Breed: Some breeds are more prone to getting certain illnesses than others. The Dog Breed section of the website is dedicated to bringing you details of common conditions that each breed is known to be susceptible to.
- Activity Levels: Just like us, the more active a dog is the healthier they tend to be. However, it is possible to be too active, or too foolhardy, and do such things as jumping from high places, which can result in damage to hips and legs. So keep your dog active, but also keep her within her capabilities!
Sometimes dogs will become ill regardless of you taking the utmost care of him. Just like humans, dogs are also susceptible to certain diseases and conditions.
We will cover things such as:
- Old age
- Weight problems
- Hip dysplasia
- Dental problems
- Ear problems
These are just some of the common problems which are covered in articles on this website. I hope you find the articles informative. If you have any concerns about your dogs health please see a vet as soon as possible.
