ALPO

ALPO dog food discussion and overall rating
one and a half stars

ALPO dog food is made by Purina in St. Louis, Missouri. Purina was founded in 1894 by William H Danforth. In 1956, Purina Puppy Chow was the first pet food made using the new technology, extrusion, now used in most of the kibble of today.

Per the ALPO website:

Quality ingredients, like healthy protein sources, wholesome grains and accents of vegetables, contribute to form a complete and balanced diet for each life stage. ALPO foods help support a happy, healthy life, a shiny coat, strong bones and teeth, and a mealtime tail that just can't stop wagging. A healthy dog is a happy dog.

However, as the reviews show, the ingredients fail to meat the "Quality" level described, and ALPO dry dog foods are not recommended at all. Actually it is recommended that you avoid this brand!

I searched both the ALPO and the Purina website for any discussion on ethoxyquin. Ethoxyquin may be a concern to some customers, since ethoxyquin can cause damage to your dogs liver. However, no mention is made on either website. A search of the web revealed that Purina used to routinely use and list ethoxyquin as an ingredient, but it is not on the list now. Since some of the meals used in ALPO dog food are considered low quality, it is best to assume that ethoxyquin does exist in ALPO dog food products.
